Caesi takes the stage with a smile as she walks into the Dark type arena of the Vital City Tournament, a rather baffling contrast to the gloomy environ with her sunny disposition. Not everything could be a main stage event, so many of these fights took place in these 18 different side arenas so everyone could get in their fights, this battle just so happening to be scheduled in the Dark arena.

The battlefield is littered with rubble and broken vehicles, the lighting purposely turned down extra low to add to the sense of danger that Dark types were supposed to radiate, deep shadows looming across the field and providing plenty of places to hide. A field perfectly suited for Rhodium as it flies onto the field and settles down on top of a wrecked car, its three heads staring across the field to wait for its opponent. Caesi herself seemed happy enough to wait on her side, rocking back and forth on her heels to see what kind of interesting person she'd meet next.

"One hundred fossils on display in the museum... Hee ho, hee ho..." Howard hummed to himself as he entered the arena. "Take it around, show it around, ninety nine fossils on display..."

Vital City Tournament? Big mistake. Horrible error. The greatest move made by the Vital City Tournament's staff was to hide Howard away in a background arena. Not that he could blame them. After fighting two Gigantamaxed Pikachus, Howard was ready to drop. He was weary. He just wanted to take a nice, easy battle against a perfectly normal trainer. Someone who wasn't completely insane, or someone who Howard kissed, or fought, or killed their Pokémon.

"Ninety-eight... huh?" Howard blinked as he entered the arena. "...eh?" He glanced at Rhodium and narrowed his eye. This Iron Jugulis seemed familiar. Had it tried to attack him before in the past or something? Future Paradox Pokémon all looked the same in Howard's opinion.

His eye flicked to Caesi. His eye closed as he thought about it. Nope. Don't recognize it.

"Heyo. Ready to have a nice, clean fight?" Howard peered at the Paradox Pokémon. "Please tell me that's not a Pikachu in disguise. I'm sick of fighting them."

Caesi's grin grows just a little wider as she spots the familiar face of Howard Slayte on the other side of the field, looks like this would be an easy win for her today! Well, that's what she would think if she was some completely different person who had definitely met this mysterious man in the past, but this was a total stranger!

"Uh... I don't think the tournament rules lets me do that haha~" Caesi scratches the back of her head with a sheepish smile, this guy was kind of a weirdo.... "But Rhodi and I will put up just as much of a fight as any Pikachu! So let's have a good match, okay?"

With that the horn screeches as the round comes to a start, the Iron Jugulis taking the initiative as it lets out a metallic roar and fires a volley of Flash Cannons at the opponent's Larvitar!

"Rhodi...?" Howard's eye narrowed as he thought about it. Did he know a Rhodi? It seemed familiar. Maybe it was a computer brand or something. Xenon Antheil was always talking about those. "Whatever. Let's have a nice, clean fight."

After taking a deep breath, Howard pointed forward. He knew nothing about studying the battlefield. Xenon, Kouji, or another battler would have a better understanding of what to do, but Howard was going to wing it.

"Serizawa, use Stone Ed-"

A Flash Cannon sent the terror tot flying. Howard frowned as it crashed into a wall. "Serizawa...?"

"TAAAAAAAAAAAAR!" Serizawa lunged forward with a warrior's shout, intending to Thrash the Paradox Pokémon into the dirt. Howard sighed and threw up his hands. "Why do I even bother...?"

"Huh." Caesi remarks quietly as Rhodium's Flash Cannons totally blow the Larvitar away, rubbing her chin thoughtfully as she ponders just how this fight would go. The blow was solid... but at the same time the little guy kind of seemed like he just shrugged it off as he screams and charges Rhodium, Thrashing his little claws into its steel body and leaving scratch marks all over its chassis. Which also didn't seem to hurt the Iron Jugulis all that much...

At this point all the tension in the match kind of drained from the stadium as the Paradox Pokemon looks down at the Larvitar dispassionately, just pointing one of its maws down at the baby dragon and hitting it with a half hearted blast of Hurricane to throw the thing away. It didn't seem all that hurt from Serizawa's attacks... but it was almost like it was drained of its passion to battle from just how pathetic it was...

Truly, this was a battle for the ages. Howard was on the edge of his proverbial seat. Serizawa was putting his heart and soul into this battle of titans.

Serizawa v. Rhodi. It would end up in the pantheon of great battles, like Groudon v. Kyogre, Dialga v. Palkia, and Reshiram v. Zekrom. It would be engraved at Hoenn's holiest sites, and it'd be chronicled in the history books as the highlight of Lilycove's Vital Star Tournament! Why, then, did Rhodi look so bored?

"TAAAAAAAAAAAAAR!" Serizawa was blown away by the hurricane, causing the Larvitar to crash into another wall. Serizawa fell to the floor with a melodramatic flop.

Incredible! Rhodi's attack was simply so powerful that it knocked the soul from Serizawa's body. The Larvitar was still for a few moments, before rising to his feet. He glared at the Paradox Pokémon with sheer rage.

"TAAAAAAAAAAAAR!" Serizawa lunged forward to smack the Iron Jugulis again, before attempting to bite into the metal monster.

Caesi pulls out her phone and hums lightly to herself as she checks to see if she has any texts or emails, browsing her socials quickly while Rhodium... thrashes the Larvitar? She couldn't really tell if she was winning or not as the weird green guy gets blasted away by a literal Hurricane, yet proceeds to get back up and continue leaping at the Iron Jugulis with vicious claws and teeth bared.

"Your... your partner has a real fighter's spirit!" Caesi calls out to Howard as she tries to get back into the match, really trying her best to look encouraging and serious about this fight while simultaneously checking her phone to see what time it was. Again.

Meanwhile Rhodium... Rhodium was barely even using moves anymore as it stares down at the Larvitar scratching its shiny metal chassis. If it weren't for the fact that it was an inorganic robot incapable of breathing, one could almost swear they heard it sigh as it picks up Serizawa by the fin on top of his head and just emitted a stream of Flamethrower from its other head, scorching the little guy's hide and hoping deep in its electronic heart that that would be enough to make the hardy thing pass out. It would not.

"Thanks! He tried to throw me off my apartment's balcony the other day." The archaeologist beamed at Caesi, seemingly oblivious to the domestically violent relationship he was in with a Larvitar roughly the size of a computer tower.

Oh, but Howard knew the pain. This Larvitar had almost broken his femur this morning. Rocket grunts would say it was due to Admin Slayte fighting Admin Cross and Beast Quinn to a standstill (lie), but Rocket grunts tended to ignore facts in favor for absurd stories that weren't even remotely true.

"TAAAAA-" Serizawa's scream was cut off as he was engulfed in flame. For a desperate, horrible moment, it seemed like Rhodi had managed to defeat the Larvitar and return to doing whatever Iron Jugulis did in their free time. For a moment, there was silence besides the crackle of fire.

And then...

"TAR!" Serizawa smacked the Iron Jugulis in the face with a rock. He fell to the ground in a heap, before bashing on Iron Jugulis's iron body with the rock over and over. It wasn't painful, but the sound of CLANG grew annoying as Serizawa continued to strike the Paradox Pokémon with a rock.

"TAR!" CLANG! "TAR!" CLANG!

"Oh! Um... c-cool?" Caesi squints at Howard with concern, unsure if she should ask the man if he was okay or not. Well obviously he was, otherwise he wouldn't be here... but was he though?

Xenon was actually the one who spread that rumor, purely because she thought it was hilarious watching Howard try to dispel that kind of reputation. But she'd never tell anyone that, nor would Howard ever find out considering she did it through the team's Slaking app, a piece of technology far too sophisticated for that dusty old bag of bones to figure out.

For the briefest of seconds it almost seems like the battle is over as the little Larvitar is literally blanketed in fire and smoke, the Iron Jugulis releasing its grip on the warrior and turning away to return back to its trainer and get ready for the next (real) battle. Alas, fortune would not be so kind to the iron war machine as Serizawa's battle cry rings true through the field, followed by the feeling of a rock smashing against its chassis. Again. And again. And again.

To reiterate, Rhodium was a machine, a literal robot from the future without emotion or feeling. It had no heart, it operated purely on number driven logic and an AI programmed to hunger for battle above all else. So it really was a statement to Serizawa's power that Rhodium's Iron Jugulis program was evolving a whole new emotion as it tried to process this situation it was in right now, and that emotion was frustrated annoyance. Not even frustrated rage, that was an emotion it could comprehend very well in the heat of battle. This was annoyance, the kind of annoyance you feel when there's a fly in the room that you can't quite get no matter how hard you tried, a really loud fly that was buzzing right by your ear and-

The Paradox Pokemon screams as it spins back around and blasts the Larvitar with a volley of Flash Cannons, completely forgoing calculation and aim in favor of just blanketing the general area the thing was standing in and glassing the field completely.

Serizawa's capability to annoy sentient machines was something that would've looked great on a resume. Mesprit, the embodiment of emotion, would never be able to do what Serizawa had just done. To piss off a computer to the point of genuine sentience was something that only appeared in science fiction stories. Now, it was real.

It was science instead of science fiction.

"TAR!" CLANG. "TAR!" CLANG. "TAR." CLANG. "TAAAAAAAAAAAA-"

The Flash Cannons struck. The rapid fire of strikes and blows blasted Serizawa towards the roof of the arena, where he could barely be seen. Howard could almost imagine the cartoonish sparkle as in the sky as he vanished from sight. Howard's eye narrowed as he peered at the darkened ceiling, waiting for any hint of Serizawa's reemergence.

"TAAAAR!" Serizawa fell towards Rhodi, rock in hand. A massive amount of energy sparked in Serizawa's hand as he gathered his might for one final strike. It was glorious, comparable to the Meteno meteorite that almost destroyed Hoenn long ago.

"Go, Serizawa!" Howard let out a cheer as the Larvitar dove through the air towards Rhodi.

"TAAAAR!" (Special Translation: "This is it! The last of my power!") Serizawa readied his pointy rock, aiming to donk Iron Jugulis on the head with it. "TAAR!" (Special Translation: "Take this!")

Serizawa swung the rock. "TAAAAAAAAAAAAR!" (Special Translation: "UNITED STATES OF MT. SILVER!")

Donk. The rock struck Rhodi.

Truly Serizawa must be the greatest warrior of our time, a monster to be feared despite only being in its first evolutionary form. May the gods have mercy on us all when it finally manages to evolve into a Pupitar, for it is certain that Serizawa will not.

Caesi's eyes follow the flying Larvitar as it soars into the sky with its rock in hand, head craning up as he passes through the open ceiling, she idly wonders if that would count as a loss by ring out by the referee. But a quick glance at him shows he's just as enraptured by this match for entirely different reason, his hand hesitating over his whistle as Serizawa reaches the apex of his jump(?) and begins to fall back down to earth. The crowd is silent as everyone's eyes slowly trail back down to the ground, the heroic Larvitar smashing his rock right into Rhodium's head and utterly shattering it into a thousand fragments of dust.

The. The rock. Not Rhodium's head. It had a slight dent and that was about it.

The Paradox Pokemon truly has no fight left in it. It stares at Serizawa with a cold gaze as it briefly considers unleashing a Hyper Beam onto it for the sin of putting it through this farce of a fight, only to realize that if it did that it would be the same as admitting this fight was worth any real effort whatsoever on its part. The gravest of losses from a philosophical standing, to put any effort into this joke of a match implied that Serizawa was worth the effort, that it was a worthy foe in any sense of the word, which in turn brought Rhodium down to his level.

The Iron Jugulis's eyes blue screen for a moment as it tries to process this logical paradox and what the optimal solution was to maintain its dignity. In the end it can only turn away and forcefully return itself to its Pokeball.

The winner by disqualification is Howard and Serizawa. "Um... good match. I think." Caesi scratches the back of her head as she tries to figure out if she even needs to go to the nurse's tent for this. Truly a battle to be immortalized in history forever. Scholars would go back to this minor side event in the Vital City Tournament for decades to come, studying the legendary Serizawa's moves and practicing them when the robot uprising came and they had to defeat robot Pokemon from the future.
